How We Find the Cause
Modern tune-ups are not the carburetor-era "set timing, points, plugs" job. A modern tune-up is platform-specific: plug replacement at manufacturer interval, ignition coil inspection, throttle body cleaning (where applicable), induction cleaning if symptoms warrant, air filter, cabin filter, and a scan for any developing codes.
What Not to Assume
A "tune-up" does not fix every drivability problem. Rough idle from a vacuum leak, misfire from a bad injector, or poor fuel economy from a stuck thermostat will not be solved by new plugs. We diagnose the cause first.

Plug interval varies: 30,000 miles (older platinum), 60,000 (most platinum), 100,000+ (iridium and modern direct-injection). Coil packs typically aren't replaced preventively.
Will a tune-up fix my check engine light?
Only if the cause was ignition. We scan before tuning up to confirm the symptom matches.
Do I need a "throttle body service"?
Throttle bodies accumulate carbon over time, causing rough idle and stalling. Cleaning is appropriate when symptoms match , not as routine maintenance.
What's a "tune-up" cost?
Plug-and-air-filter only: $250-$400 on most 4-cylinders. Plus coil packs, throttle service, or platform-specific items: $500-$700. We quote per vehicle.
