How We Find the Cause

Turbo symptoms include power loss, whining/whistling noise change, smoke (white or black), oil consumption, and boost codes. We inspect the turbo for shaft play, check oil drain and oil supply lines, scan for boost vs commanded boost mismatch, and inspect the variable geometry (VGT) actuator on platforms that use it.

What Not to Assume

A turbo issue isn't always a failed turbo , often it's a stuck VGT actuator (cleanable), a leaking intercooler, a boost leak in plumbing, or a sensor. We test boost actuator before recommending turbo replacement.

We find the cause. We test the boost actuator and check for a stuck VGT, a boost leak, or a sensor before condemning the turbo itself.

We show you what we found. We show you why it is or isn't the turbo, because a stuck actuator is often cleanable and far cheaper.

Why Drivers Choose Us

Turbo replacement is one of the most expensive single-component repairs on a diesel. We identify whether the failure is the turbo itself, the actuator, or supporting hardware. Available at Las Cruces and Yuma.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What causes turbo failure?

Oil contamination (most common), bearing wear, foreign object damage, or actuator failure.

  • Can a turbo be rebuilt instead of replaced?

Some turbos rebuild well; others are replace-only. We assess per platform.

  • Why is my turbo whistling more than before?

Bearing wear, shaft play, or a leak in the intake/exhaust path. We listen with a stethoscope and inspect.

  • Will an EGR delete extend turbo life?

Possibly, but we don't perform delete work. Properly functioning EGR doesn't substantially shorten turbo life on platforms designed for it.
