How We Find the Cause

A code is the starting point, not the answer. We pull active and pending codes, then reads freeze-frame data to see what conditions triggered the code. From there: live data review (fuel trims, O2 sensors, MAF, MAP, coolant temp), targeted system testing (smoke test for vacuum leaks, fuel pressure for fuel-related codes, electrical for sensor codes), and a road test confirming the symptom returns. Only then do we recommend a repair.

What Not to Assume

A P0420 code does not always mean a catalytic converter , it can be a downstream O2 sensor or a small exhaust leak. A misfire code does not always mean a coil pack or a plug , it can be a vacuum leak, an injector, or a head gasket. The "evap leak" code does not always mean a charcoal canister , it's usually a loose or cracked gas cap. We test before recommending parts.

We find the cause. We pull codes from every module, not just the powertrain, then read live data and freeze-frame to see the conditions that set the light.

We show you what we found. We show you what the code actually points to and what we confirmed by testing, because the same code can have very different causes.

Why Drivers Choose Us

A flashing check engine light means damage is happening NOW , usually a misfire that can destroy a catalytic converter. Bring the vehicle in promptly. A steady check engine light is less urgent but still meaningful. We quote a diagnostic fee, not a repair, until the cause is clear. Not sure which one you are looking at? Here is what to do when the check engine light comes on.

Some people drop the keys and keep moving; some settle in. Either way works here.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • My check engine light is on but the car drives fine. Should I worry?

A steady light is not an emergency, but it indicates the vehicle's computer found a fault. Driving with an active code can mask a second developing issue and can affect emissions test results. We recommend scanning within 1-2 weeks.

  • Will a parts-store code reader tell me what's wrong?

It tells you what code stored. It does not tell you what failed. P0171 can be a vacuum leak, fuel pressure, MAF sensor, or a leak past piston rings. The code is the starting point.

  • Why does the light keep coming back after I cleared it?

Because the underlying problem was never fixed. Clearing the code doesn't repair the fault. We find the cause so the light stays off.

  • Is a diagnostic fee refundable if I do the repair with you?

Diagnostic fees compensate for inspection time. We quote the diagnostic separately so you understand what you're paying for. Talk to your service advisor about how the diagnostic charge applies to the approved repair.
